CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

As founder and CEO, Michael T. Waldrop, Sr. serves as the driving force for Blue Cord’s culture and values. He is the foundation behind the creation of an integrated, ethical, inclusive, and collaborative work environment that allows all employees to do what they do best each and every day.

With over 20 years of experience, Michael brings the operational leadership and entrepreneurial spirit that has helped Blue Cord deliver many high-profile construction projects across the United States. As Blue Cord’s leader, he is directly involved in all phases of every project ensuring that the highest quality is maintained at every level. Over the last 12 years, Michael has steadily built the company’s market position and talent base focusing on operational excellence, client relationship development, firm values, company culture, establishment of a skilled team, and, ultimately, overall management leadership.

Michael’s journey began in 1993, where he enlisted in the Army as an Infantry Private Soldier while attending college at Clemson University. He was trained and educated as a Bradley Fighting Vehicle driver, dismount, and gunner and was selected at an early age to attend Officer Candidate School (OCS). In 1996, he graduated from OCS going on to become one of the youngest commissioned officers in his class.

After several years of service, Michael entered the Inactive Ready Reserves so he could still serve his country if called upon. In 2006, he was called back to active duty to serve as a U.S. Army Infantry Captain during Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. During this assignment, he commanded an Afghanistan National Army Rifle Company consisting of 150 foreign soldiers. He participated in all major battles between 2006-2007 and was wounded in action during the Battle of Panjwai in Operation Medusa. He is the recipient of the Purple Heart Medal as well as two (2) Bronze Stars for Valor, the fourth-highest combat award bestowed by the U.S. Army for Valor.

Following his military career, and as a service-disabled Veteran himself, Michael has strived to create a community that leads the nation in job creation and business opportunities for area Veterans. Knowing the struggles Veterans face in returning home, adjusting to civilian life, and finding employment, he has built his professional endeavors on providing guidance, support, business, and employment opportunities for those who have sacrificed so much to ensure this nation’s continued freedom.

“Delivering exceptional quality relationships at best value; being the most responsive company our clients have; unwavering focus on the fact that the facilities we contribute to are intended to better the lives of the people in our community and in particular, those who have served.”

Michael is very proud of his two children, Marilyn and Tommy. Marilyn is currently attending Michael’s alma mater, Clemson University, and is pursuing her B.S. in Business. Tommy is in high school and is very active in lacrosse. During his downtime, Michael enjoys traveling with his children. They all enjoy spending time outdoors, especially in and near the water.
